CYCC   Summer Chess Fest 

 

The Canadian Junior Chess Championship is a qualifier for the World Junior being held in Mar del Plata, Argentina from 16 to 29 October 2009.    To register on line for the Canadian Junior. Mail in registration and payment by cheque also available.

 

Dates: July 25 - 28, 2009

 

Place: Victoria, BC

Time Control:  Game 90 minutes plus 30 seconds per move

Eligibility:

  • Must be born in 1989 or later
  • Must have a CFC rating of >1800 or be a 2009 Provincial Junior Champion or submit a written application for permission to register (email to braymer@telus.net). The application should give a summary of chess performance that indicates a past performance of equal to or near 1800.  Applications will be reviewed by the Canadian Junior organizing committee and decisions will be made within 4 weeks of receipt.
  • Must be a Canadian citizen or Permanent Canadian resident for at least 12 months. Players with any question about their own eligibility to compete should contact Ellen Nadeau, Canadian Youth Chess Coordinator at ellennadeau@yahoo.ca to verify eligibility. Failure to do so and not meeting the requirements could result in withdrawal from the tournament and/or ineligibility for awards.
  • The total number of participants may be limited. Qualified players should register early to ensure a space.

 

Other events will take place before and during the Canadian Junior from July 20th to 26th, 2009.  See the Schedule of Events for details.

 

Winner will receive funding toward travel to the World Junior.  Value of contribution toward travel will depend on the number of participants and the funds available after expenses.  Expenses for the event are being kept to a minimum and will be in accordance with the bid for the Canadian Junior. A travel contribution of $1500 is available based on 20 players registered.
